We plan to leave around noon on June 24 and car pool to the Maggard Canoe & Corkery Campground on the Niangua river near Bennett Spring, Mo. We will grab some sandwiches on the way to the campground and set up our tents before dark. For those that would rather not sleep in tents you will be able to stay in a cabin or a motel located not far from our campground. We will canoe, float, or raft on Monday and Tuesday and return to Topeka on Tuesday afternoon. The drive is about 4 hours and we usually arrive back in Topeka around 7 pm. Camper spots are available at the campsite. The campground is fairly rustic, it has good showers and ice is available in the morning and evening. We will rent (canoes, kayaks, or rafts), a bus will take us to Bennett Spring for our float trip and we will float back to the campground. We normally will take along a shore lunch, swim along the way and arrive back at the campground in mid-afternoon and prepare our evening meal. You will need to bring a tent, coolers, food for two breakfasts, two shore lunches, and one evening meal. Several members of the Columbia Ski club will join us in this fun filled (Don’t forget your sun screen) trip. Check the Maggard canoe & Corkery website for information on the rental equipment and rental rates. We will plan to rent canoes and a kayak if we have an odd number of campers. Call Stan at 785-478-3765 for additional information.
